Connecting Azure Boards to LinearB Using a Personal Access Token

If you use Azure Boards as your project management tool, you need to create a Personal Access Token (PAT) to connect it to LinearB.

This guide walks you through the process of generating a PAT, configuring the required permissions, and integrating Azure Boards with LinearB.

To generate a Personal Access Token (PAT), follow these steps:

Navigate to Azure DevOps:
- Go to Azure DevOps and sign in to your account.
Access User Settings:
1. Click on your profile picture in the top-right corner.
2. Select Personal access tokens from the dropdown menu.
Generate a New Token:
1. Click + New Token.
2. Provide a descriptive name for your token (e.g., “LinearB Integration”).
3. Set an expiration date based on your security preferences.
Configure Required Permissions: Ensure the following permissions are enabled:
- Projects and Teams: Read
- Team Dashboard: Read
- User Profile: Read
- Work Items: Read
Create and Copy the Token:
Click Create.
Copy the generated PAT and store it securely (you won’t be able to view it again).

You must be organization Owners or Project Collection Administrator in order to create a PAT with the correct permissions.

Once you have your PAT, follow these steps to connect Azure Boards to LinearB:

Log in to LinearB.
If prompted, navigate to the Company Settings > Project Management > Boards.
Select Azure Boards as your project management tool.
Paste your Personal Access Token (PAT).
Click Connect.

After completing these steps, LinearB will begin processing your Azure Boards data for project tracking and analytics.
