Create a Custom Metric

Build your own metric with the AI Assistant or by writing the query, and add it to a dashboard. Replaces the Classic Metrics Builder.

When no LinearB Catalog metric answers your question, build your own custom metric. In Agentic Studio you build a metric together with its widget, in the builder, and add it to a dashboard.

Building metrics in Agentic Studio replaces the Classic Metrics Builder. Dashboards you built with Metrics Builder are in Studio.

Before you begin

  • Custom metrics are Personal content.
  • Have a dashboard you own, or create one first.

Create a custom metric

  1. Open the builder: select Add widget on your dashboard, or pick a Build starting point on the assistant home.
  2. Describe the metric to the assistant, or write the query yourself in the widget editor.
  3. Name the widget and choose a widget type.
  4. Check the preview. Nothing is saved until you save.
  5. Save.

Your metric is placed as a widget on the dashboard.

Start from a catalog metric

Pick a Build starting point to start from a LinearB Catalog metric, then change it and save. The result is your own Personal metric; the catalog metric is never changed.

Good to know

  • Custom metrics are available in Agentic Studio dashboards. They are not available through the MCP Server or the public API.
