In this phase, configure your organization’s users and team structure in LinearB. Proper team and user configuration ensures dashboards, AI insights, and automation are attributed to the correct engineers and teams.

Estimated time: 5–10 minutes

Step 1 — Create Teams

Teams define how work is organized inside LinearB. Dashboards, metrics, and automation are all scoped to teams. Users must belong to teams for their activity to appear correctly in team dashboards.

To create a team:

  1. Go to Settings → Users & Teams.
  2. Ensure the Users | Teams toggle is set to Teams.
  3. Click + Add Team.
  4. Enter the team name and details.
  5. Click Save & Close.

Expected result:

  • Your engineering teams appear in the Teams list
  • Teams can later be assigned repositories and users
Tip
Start with your primary engineering teams. You can refine or expand the team structure later.

Step 2 — Add Users

Next, add users to LinearB so they can access dashboards, insights, and automation features.

  1. Go to Settings → Users & Teams.
  2. Select the Users view.
  3. Click + Add User.
  4. Enter the user's name and email address.
  5. Select the appropriate role.
  6. Assign the user to a team.
  7. Click Save & Close.

Expected result:

  • Users appear in the Users list
  • Each user is assigned to the correct team

Step 3 — Assign User Roles

LinearB uses role-based permissions to control what users can view and modify.

Available roles:

  • Admin — Full access to company settings and integrations.
  • Editor — Can modify dashboards and team settings.
  • Viewer — Can view dashboards and reports.
  • Basic — Limited access.

Ensure that at least one user has the Admin role for ongoing configuration and maintenance.

Step 4 — Resolve Duplicate Users (If Needed)

In some cases, users may appear multiple times if their Git identity uses different email addresses.

For example, a developer may appear as two users if they commit using a personal email but log into LinearB using a corporate email.

To merge duplicate users:

  1. Go to Settings → Users & Teams.
  2. Open the primary user profile.
  3. Click the menu.
  4. Select Merge Account.
  5. Select the duplicate account.

Expected result:

  • All commit and pull request activity is attributed to a single user identity
  • Historical metrics remain intact

Optional — Configure SSO & SCIM

Many organizations integrate LinearB with their identity provider to centralize authentication and automate user provisioning.

Supported identity providers:

  • Okta
  • Google Workspace
  • Microsoft Entra (Azure AD)

SSO allows users to authenticate using corporate credentials, while SCIM can automatically create and manage users in LinearB.

Where to configure:

Go to Settings → SSO.

Note
SSO and SCIM features may need to be enabled for your workspace. If you do not see these options, contact LinearB support.

Important behavior:

  • Users are created in LinearB after their first successful SSO login.
  • User identities are automatically matched across Git providers and SSO using email addresses.
  • If email addresses do not match exactly, duplicate users may appear and require merging.

What Success Looks Like

  • Teams exist for your engineering organization
  • Users are added and assigned to teams
  • User roles are correctly configured
  • Duplicate identities are resolved if necessary
Phase 2 complete.

Once users and teams are configured, you can enable AI insights and automation.
