Overview

Company Admins can turn off access to the LinearB MCP server for their organization. When MCP access is disabled, the MCP endpoint (https://mcp.linearb.io/mcp) rejects all requests for that organization, including OAuth and API key connections.

The setting applies per organization. For example, you can keep MCP enabled in a sandbox organization while it is disabled in your production organization.

Note: MCP access is enabled by default. It stays enabled unless a Company Admin turns it off. This setting is available on the Enterprise plan.

Before You Begin

  • You have the Company Admin role in the LinearB organization you want to change.
  • If you manage several organizations (for example, production and sandbox), you know which one you are signed in to.
  • Users who are connected through MCP know that their connection will stop working.

Disable MCP Server Access

  1. Sign in to LinearB as a Company Admin.
  2. Go to Settings → General.
  3. In the MCP section, turn off Enable LinearB MCP.

Important: Disabling MCP access cuts off every MCP client connected to this organization, including clients that use OAuth and clients that use an organization-scoped API key. API keys used by other LinearB APIs are not affected.

Re-enable MCP Server Access

  1. Go to Settings → General.
  2. In the MCP section, turn on Enable LinearB MCP.
  3. Ask users to reconnect their MCP clients. See Connect to LinearB MCP Server.

Verify the Change

  • In an MCP client connected to this organization, run a LinearB query. When access is disabled, the client shows this message:
    LinearB MCP access is disabled for your organization. An admin can enable it in LinearB under Settings > General.
  • Clients and scripts that call the endpoint directly receive an HTTP 403 response:
    {
                "error": "mcp_disabled",
                "error_description": "LinearB MCP access is disabled for your organization. An admin can enable it in LinearB under Settings > General."
              }
  • In any other organization where MCP is still enabled, the same client keeps working.

Troubleshooting

MCP Still Responds After Disabling

Verify that you turned off Enable LinearB MCP in the correct organization. The setting applies only to the organization you were signed in to when you changed it.

MCP Is Blocked in an Organization Where It Should Work

Verify that Enable LinearB MCP is turned on in that organization. Then ask the user to reconnect their client. If the problem continues, contact LinearB Support.
