AI Code Review - Automatic Review Limits
AI Code Review runs automatically on pull requests (PRs) in repositories where it is enabled.
To keep reviews focused and relevant, gitStream applies two limits to automatic AI reviews.
You can always trigger a review manually with /gs review.
/gs review are not limited.
Summary
- Up to 3 automatic reviews per PR – after the third eligible push, AI Code Review switches to manual trigger.
- PRs over 3,200 changed lines are skipped – very large PRs do not get an automatic AI review.
- Skipped PRs get a gitStream comment – the comment explains why the review did not run and how to trigger it.
Automatic review limit per pull request
AI Code Review runs automatically on the first 3 eligible pushes to a PR. After the third automatic review, new pushes to the same PR do not trigger another automatic review.
To review the latest changes after the limit is reached, comment /gs review on the PR.
Pull request size limit
PRs with more than 3,200 changed lines do not receive an automatic AI review. This affects roughly the largest 5% of PRs, where a line-by-line AI review adds little value.
To review a large PR anyway, comment /gs review on the PR.

Trigger an AI review manually
- Open the pull request in your Git provider.
- Add a comment with
/gs review. - gitStream runs AI Code Review on the current state of the PR and posts the results.
Impact on AI Review metrics
PRs skipped because of the size limit count as not reviewed in AI Review Coverage unless someone triggers a review manually. The per-PR limit does not affect coverage, because those PRs already received at least one AI review.
