LinearB provides AI-driven features that help engineering teams improve code quality, automate repetitive work, and track adoption of AI tools. These capabilities are controlled through two areas in Settings:

  • AI Services — A master toggle that enables or disables LinearB AI across your entire organization.
  • AI Tools & Automations — Detailed configuration for LinearB AI automations, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, and related integrations.

This article explains how to manage AI Services, what happens if they are disabled, and where to configure specific AI tools.

Summary
  • Use AI Services (Settings → General → AI Services) to enable/disable LinearB AI organization-wide.
  • Use AI Tools (Settings → AI Tools) to configure automations and integrations like Copilot and Cursor.
  • If AI Services are disabled, LinearB AI processing stops, but some external metrics (Copilot/Cursor) can still appear.
  • If AI Services is greyed out, contact LinearB Support to enable it for your org.

Before you begin

What you’ll need

  • LinearB role: Admin (only admins can toggle AI Services).
  • Access: Ability to open LinearB Settings.
If you are only configuring Copilot or Cursor usage tracking, you’ll do most of your work in Settings → AI Tools. If you want LinearB AI features (like AI automations and AI-generated insights), confirm AI Services is enabled first.

AI Services

The AI Services toggle is located under Settings → General → AI Services.

AI Services toggle in Settings
  • When enabled, LinearB AI features are available (for example, AI Insights, AI Automations, and related AI processing).
  • When disabled, LinearB stops running AI processing and AI automations.
Only admins can enable or disable AI Services for an organization.

Effects of disabling AI Services

If AI Services are disabled:

  • AI Automations (for example, AI Review and AI Description) stop running.
  • AI Insights can continue to display existing data, but LinearB-generated AI outputs (for example, AI Review/AI Description outputs and AI Iteration Summaries) no longer populate.
  • GitHub Copilot and Cursor usage dashboards can continue reporting activity (they rely on external APIs rather than LinearB AI processing).
  • Dependabot automations do not run.
  • Other dashboards (for example, DORA, Delivery, Quality, Throughput) continue to function, but without AI-driven enhancements.

In some cases, the AI Services setting may appear greyed out and cannot be enabled by admins. If this happens, contact LinearB Support for assistance.

AI Tools & Automations

Go to Settings → AI Tools to configure individual AI features. These are grouped into three areas:

  • LinearB AI & Automations — AI Review, AI Description, labeling, and Dependabot automations.
  • GitHub Copilot — Tracks adoption and usage metrics for Copilot.
  • Cursor — Tracks adoption and usage metrics for Cursor.

Operation mode

Before enabling automations, choose an operation mode:

  • Managed Mode — Automations run on the LinearB runner as a managed service. Required for AI Insights.
  • Repository Mode — Automations are defined in repository configuration files and run on your Git provider infrastructure. Not tracked in AI Insights.
